PA46 Recurrent Training

Completion of this course fulfills the requirements for the Basic and Advanced Phases of the FAA Pilot Proficiency Program (WINGs).

Ground

Period 1: Administrative functions:

Review pilot information and history. Review the aircraft inspection status and documents for completeness. Discuss human factors, risk management, decision making and review the personal minimums process.

Period 2: Lecture Performance:

Every flight involves a performance evaluation. We'll work through a series of performance charts using the owner's aircraft in a scenario from a high altitude airport to low altitude short runway.

Period 3: Lecture with Computer Support:

Weight and Balance: The aircraft data will be presented in a graphical computer program to demonstrate the possible loading scenarios within the aircraft's weight and balance limitations.

Period 4: Regulatory Review:

We will review the current regulatory guidance using the FAA guide for Flight Reviews and Instrument Proficiency Checks.

Period 5: Testing  Systems Review:

The pilot will review the aircraft systems with the instructor and complete the aircraft systems test prior to flight. All answers will be corrected to 100%.

Flight (One session per pilot)

VFR/IFR Proficiency:

The pilot will prepare a scenario for a local flight which includes all the required flight planning tasks. The pilot will complete a thorough preflight and resolve any airworthiness issues prior to departure. The pilot will refer to the appropriate checklist during all phases of the session. The flight will proceed to a local practice area where the pilot will review slow flight, stall recoveries, steep turns, and unusual attitude recoveries. The flight includes emphasis on SRM techniques using automation management during high workload conditions.  Simulated emergencies may be introduced at any phase of the flight.  In this scenario, the pilot will practice programming the aircraft navigation systems and executing the approach/missed approach(s).  Procedure turns, holding, circling, and diversions will be integrated into the session.  The session will be considered complete when the pilot fulfills the requirements for an IPC per FAA-S-ACS-8. Maximum performance takeoffs and landings will be completed as necessary.

Period 6: Discussion Graduation:

In this final period we debrief the flight and identify any areas were improvement is recommended or required. Additional training is scheduled as necessary.  We take a look at recent accidents involving the PA-46 and we spend time evaluating/creating personal minimums for VFR/IFR operations.
