Notes: FAR part 91.205 addresses instrument and equipment requirements.  Students were given memory aides like TOMATO FLAMES, or GOOSE A CAT to jog their memories.  FAR part 91.207 covers ELTs and includes instructions for operating without an ELT.  Not widely known is that Cessna (and possibly other manufactures) listed the ELT as a “required"item for certification for later model aircraft and that supersedes the allowance for operating without an ELT.

FAR part 91.215 covers transponders and altitude reporting equipment.
